Dover Castle- Jul08'

Wellp Dover Castle was/is my like fav castle in the UK so far. It's a huge castle and being situated where it is (about 20 miles from France- Calaise) it is a huge historical castle. All the Normandy invasion plans were made from secret underground tunnels buried a 100' or more beneath the castle. This is also where you catch the ferries or Chunnel to cross over to the mainland. With the Cliffs (made of white chalk) here as well you can easily spend a day looking at everything. This day was great as it didn't rain on us as forecasted!!!

Looking out over the harbour.

nice anti-aircraft (AA) piece

also a huge military thing was the evacuation of all the Allied forces from France before the Germans could overrun them early in WWII.

These signs were all in this observation tower built out along the front wall near the AA gun.

more signs

aircraft markings

German ship markings

here are some ferry boats in the harbour

looking out along the cliffs

here is a good view of em

this is the entrance (duh) to the underground tunnels. they wouldn't allow pics down there... :(

instead of "spot at sight" should be "shoot on sight"!!!!

from the top of the tower you can just see the lighthouse (white speck) that I will have a pic of later- bout a mile and half or so between the 2

Dover Castle from where we started walking the cliffs from

it totally commands the area!!

standing right on the edge

those rocks look close but are like 250'+ below

Sid giving some height comparison

some fortifications built into the cliff walls

rocks big as houses!!

a supply line down to defenders in the cliffs is what we figured...

Peregine Falcon breeding area- they are the fastest birds in the world!! 300mph+ in a dive!!

Here finally is that lighthouse you could just barely see from the Castle. would be cool to catch a sunrise and sunset here to take pics!!! would be a "cover" shot for sure!!!

more "looking down" at the rocks!!!!!
